My music classroom is definitely one where the students are at the center of everything. Student empowerment is key; indeed empowering the youth early will help them develop the skills they need to be able to navigate easily in that tumultuous sea that characterizes our everyday life.

As a music teacher,  my goal is to instill curiosity in my students. I want to be able to stimulate them enough so that they want to learn more about music. This way, they will become independent enquirers and will search for information they want to learn.

Music can be expressed in many different forms and I strongly believe students should experience them all in my classroom. This form of art is around us at all times and it is my job to encourage students to take an interest in it, whatever form this intererst reveals itself into. I will have reached my goals if students leave my program with an interest for music that they will cultivate and enrich for the rest of their lives.

As I believe everyone can develop and interest for music, my goal will be to include every single student in my classroom so that they feel accepted, valued and respected. Some students might not show giftedness towards music but they definitely all can learn to appreciate it.

Student-teacher relationships are of utmost importance especially for music teachers who will often times deal with their students emotions expressed through the art. I will therefore make it a priority to establish positive contacts with students at the very beginning of the school year. Taking interest in the students' lives will also make them want to absorb the material I teach, later maybe leading into a passion for music.
